THE CAMP MAN’S JINGLE - Limited Edition

Each cowboy on a ranch typically has between 6-8 horses in his string to get his part of the work done. These strings thrown together make up the crew’s cavvy or remuda. When the crew is working together such as on a wagon, someone, often a young kid, is designated to gather these horses every morning for the cowboys to choose their mounts for the day. This is called wrangling or, oftentimes, “jingling”. In a camp on a ranch where a cowboy might be working alone or with one other fella, he’ll often use the smart trick of getting his horse string to come into the corral at the sound of“ jingling” feed in a moral or feedbag. Thus “jingling” his horses in another way.

A French-Canadian canoe man circa 1800- one of the boatmen,
known as Voyageurs, who annually paddled the massive
birchbark Montreal canoes through the Great Lakes waterways
from Montreal to Grand Portage on the western shore of Lake
Superior. They brought supplies and trade goods from Montreal
and returned with the annual fur harvest from the Canadian
interior. During a periodic rest stop the Voyageur has pulled his pipe and tobacco from his otter skin pipe bag and enjoys a smoke.
